Jong Klang Temple

        Jong Klang Temple, this temple contains a Vihara housing a replica of the Phra Phuttha Sihing image that has been thoroughly gilded with gold leaf. Other objects of interest include thirty-three wooden human and anumal figures representing scenes from the Vessantara Jatake. They were carved by Burmese artisans and taken from Burma in 1857 A.D. There are also glass paintings depicting the Vessantara Jatake as well as the life of Prince Siddhartha and folk ways of life in the old days. According to a record, they were painted by Myanmar artisans from Mandalay.

         Features a pagoda style is beautifully decorated by the Mon form of Shan. Behind the chedi is a large rambling open-fronted wiharn. Within the wiharn are many altars and throne-like pulpits used by the monks of the temple when giving sermons. To the right of the altar, three walls are completely covered with small paintings on glass depicting the previous lives of the Lord Buddha before birth and biography of the prince Sidhadha(the Jakata). The paintings are more than 100 years old and were bought from Mandalay in Burma.In a room behind the paintings is a collection of small wooden ‘dolls’ also bought from Burma.

Standing on top of Doi Kong Mu hill and visible from most places in Mae Hong Son town is the Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu, a Burmese style temple founded in 1860. The temple comprises of several structures including two chedis and two viharns. The atmosphere atop the hill is one of tranquility and serenity.
